Planning Permission

Garage conversions seldom require planning permission as most houses have their permitted development rights intact. Permitted Development is denoted by the government as a category of work to the property which may take place without planning permission requirement.

Certain councils do have their own directive with regard to construction work (i.e. conservation areas) and will either require outline plans of the proposed work or the submission of full plans -- both of which we can facilitate on your behalf.

To find out whether planning permission is required we will make a phone call on your behalf to your local authority planning department. We also write to your council to request their written confirmation in order that you have this prior to any work commencing.

To date less than 10% of the garage conversions we have carried out have required local authority planning permission.

If planning permission is required we would be pleased to complete the necessary scale drawings and planning application including ordnance survey maps.

Once your application has been made to the council it will take between 6-8 weeks to pass through the decision making process and for formal acceptance to be granted.

Further information on all aspects of Planning Permission, including guidance notes, applications, the appeals procedure and online applications can be found at the Government's online planning portal.
